Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery

A portion of the land donated by Jacob Brugger for the first Bethany Church was allocated for the Bethany Cemetery. The cemetery is located just east of the original church building site, one half mile north of the intersection of Kaiser and Springville Roads.
Susan Wenger was the first person buried in our cemetery in 1873 and Jacob Brugger in 1901. The cemetery consisted mainly of family plots that were maintained by surviving family members.
By the end of the 1950's, unattended plantings and weeds had taken over many of the gravesites. Ben Leu took it upon himself to go to the church membership and to known relatives of persons buried in the cemetery, to raise adequate funds to improve and maintain the appearance of the grounds. The pictures below show the results of Ben's dedication. We now have a beautiful cemetery due to the continuing efforts by members of the Elmer Grossen family. Others have also come forward with donations of labor, money and materials to keep the cemetery grounds well groomed.
