Obituary

"Well Done, Good and Faithful servant" Matthew 25:23 Lowell Vernon Berger, 100, of Hillsboro, Oregon, passed away on June 20, 2023, at the age of 100. He was born November 24, 1924, in Hillsboro, Oregon to Fred and McKinley Berger. He attended McKinley School, a one-room schoolhouse where he had the stove. After graduating from Beaverton High School in 1942, (working cows for his dad). Four years later, he was called to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army in 1946 where he served overseas by the Transmission and Differential Line in Occupied Japan. After a brief time working in Portland, Lowell returned to the family farm. As a help to his widowed mother, he ran the wheat farm and raised beef cattle. He especially loved growing the wheat and raising beef cattle. He enjoyed the many friendships young and old. He enjoyed throughout the years as evidenced by his well-attended 100th birthday celebration last November. Retirement was not in Lowell's vocabulary. He was up in the tractor that summer flailing one of his fields with thoughts of doing it again. He was an amazing 100-year-old who kept a hand-written business ledger, had a valid driver's license, used a flip phone, and only needed 2.0 readers to read his many magazines and newspapers, but most importantly to read his Bible every morning. Lowell was predeceased by his parents, older sister Jean, brother-in-law Burt, Don, younger brother Jim and his brother-in-law Burt. He is survived by his younger sister Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.
