Obituary
JULIA J. "JUDY" (VAN DYKE) VANDERZANDEN was born March 7, 1915 in Forest Grove, Oregon, the 10th of 11 children of John and Constance (Hermens) Van Dyke. She was raised and lived most of her life in the Verboort community. Judy attended Visitation School in Verboort.
She was united in marriage to Clement D. "Clem" Vanderzanden on November 23, 1939 at the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort. Following their marriage they made their home in the Verboort community. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, "Clem" on April 30, 1993, after celebrating over fifty-three years of marriage.
In addition to raising a family, Judy also worked in the berry fields, Birds Eye Cannery in Hillsboro and a floral shop over the years.
She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and of the Visitation Parish in Verboort. She was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and A.A.R.P. Her special interests included making quilts, working in her flowers, digging clams, going to the beach, rummage sales and sewing for charitable organizations. She also worked at all the annual parish dinners since its inception over sixty years ago.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Ted, Bill, Walt and Ed Van Dyke and four sisters, Kate Vandehey, Frances VanHandel, Mary Rosalie Van Dyke and Adelia Van Dyke.
Judy died May 21, 1998 at the Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Shirley VanderZanden of LaGrande, Oregon; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jude & Don Walter of North Plains, Oregon; and Jane Raffety of Hillsboro, Oregon; a brother and sister-in-law , Joseph and Margie Van Dyke of Verboort, Oregon and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary "Mickie" and Franklin McCoy of Hillsboro, Oregon.
Also surviving are six grandchildren and a spouse, Doug Piercy of Hillsboro; JoAnne and Rick Robison of Salem, Oregon; Jeri Lundy and Mike VanderZanden of LaGrande Oregon, and Sheryl and Ryan Raffety both of Hillsboro, Oregon; five great-grandchildren, Clinton Robison and Kyle Robison both of Salem, Oregon; Robbie Lundy, Andrew Lundy, and Cody VanderZanden all of LaGrande, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved companion dog, Casandra.
