Dorothy Frances Toelle
Feb. 03, 1926 - March 27, 2009
Dorothy Frances Toelle was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Leaburg, to Francis and Agnes (Hansen) Elston. She died peacefully in the early morning of March 27, 2009, in Mt. Angel. Dorothy's bright eyes and quick smile will be missed by everyone she knew.
Dorothy and her brother Alvin grew up swimming in the cold waters of the McKenzie River. She graduated from the University of Oregon, as a registered nurse. She met her future husband, Norman Toelle, in Leaburg. Dorothy once said, "When Norman came to Leaburg to meet my folks, he parked about a half mile away so my folks wouldn't see his car. He had a Model 'A'."
On March 4, 1950 she married Norman at Bethany Presbyterian Church. They lived in Fort Smith, Ark., Roseburg and Portland where Dorothy worked as a nurse before settling in to start a family.
Dorothy was a compassionate community volunteer and church member, helping found the Dove Preschool in 1980. Norman and Dorothy had a strong committed relationship that lasted 45 years. Norman died in 1995. Dorothy will be especially missed by her daughter, Dianne Oliver of Scotts Mills; her son and his family, Doug Toelle, Jane Atkinson, Neil Toelle, Robin Spielman and Anya Toelle of Fairbanks, Alaska; close family friend Becky Hartsfield; and many other family members and friends.
