Obituary

Bryce W. Gordon, 81, former building official ALSEA – Bryce William Gordon, 81, Alsea, died Aug. 11, 2004, at his home after a battle with asbestos lung cancer. Graveside services were Aug. 13 in Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery and a memorial celebration at Alsea Flow-Ed next day. Mr. Gordon was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Portland, a son of William and Jennie Gordon. He was raised in Portland and attended Roosevelt High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received the Unit Presidential Citation. On July 4, 1946, he married Olive Ruth Fleer. They observed their 58th wedding anniversary. Mr. Gordon learned the building trade from his father and worked as a building official for Washington County for several years. He moved to Kodiak, Alaska, in 1978, where he worked until retirement. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Gordon, a son-in-law, two daughters, Christy Susan Gordon, Sacramento, Calif., and Willow Mae Bolen, Portland; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Alsea, Frederick M. Gordon, and Christina Luce Gordon; six grandchildren, Glen Bolen, Max Bolen, Riley Bolen, Celeste L. Bogs, Bryce; a great-granddaughter, Larissa Bogs Bryce; a great-niece and nephews; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Newell. Remembrances to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2505 N. Portland Blvd., Portland OR 97217-5053.
