Obituary

Wismer, Bernice Trachsel 98 Aug. 25, 1913 Oct. 16, 2011 Bernice, 98, of Bethany, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died on October 16, 2011. Bernice grew up on the family farm in Washington County where they raised poultry and cattle and grew grain. Later, strawberry fields were planted, and Bernice managed the berry harvest. In her spare time—as she called it—she was head cook at Sunset Valley Grade School, which became part of Beaverton School District. After retiring, Bernice and Dick traveled with friends to sightsee and play golf. A favorite pastime was playing Pinochle with the same group of friends from church, which they did for 38 years. Gardening was a passion for her, and she spent many hours working with her flowers. Bernice is survived by her husband, Dick; daughter, JoAnn (Gary) Vance; son, Dr. Ronald (Jan) Wismer; grandchildren, David (Laureen) Vance; Brian (Lydia) Vance; Tyson (Janell) Wismer; and Brent and Lindsey Wismer; and great-grandchildren, Corinne and Aaron Vance. Her grandchildren were the love of her life, and she attended as many of their school activities as possible. She was so proud of her family and loved the attention they gave her in the last years of her life. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 15505 N.W. Springville Road, Portland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bethany Presbyterian Church or Barnes Elementary School, 1730 S.W. Walker Road, Beaverton, OR 97005. Arrangements by Peg Paxon & Springer Chapel. Special Instructions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bethany Presbyterian Church or Barnes Elementary School, 1730 S.W. Walker Road, Beaverton, OR 97005.
