Eileen Jansen, 89, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Saturday evening, September 1, 2012 at her home in Forest Grove.

EILEEN (VANDEHEY) JANSEN was born February 10, 1923 in Verboort, Oregon and was the daughter of the late Edward and Minnie (Hermans) Vandyke. She was raised and received her education in the Verboort community.

As a young girl, Eileen attended baseball games played by Verboort's semipro team and developed an affection for Larry Jansen, who at the time was 17 and was an outstanding pitcher.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence \"Larry\" Joseph Jansen on January 18, 1940 at the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort, where both were born and raised.

After their marriage they made their home in Verboort where they raised their 10 children while Larry continued his professional baseball career. Eileen traveled with their children during the summers to New York, San Francisco and Chicago so they could keep their family together.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, October 10, 2009, only 3 months shy of celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.

Eileen always had a deep love for her husband, children and grandchildren. Family meant everything to Eileen. Even in her last days she could be found playing 'trucks and cars' with her great-grandchildren. She lived for those precious visits no matter how weak or tired she might be toward the last. Among her other interests were fishing and crabbing, especially in their boat the \"Five & Five\", named in honor of her five sons and five daughters. She was a great and amazing mom and grandma and friend to many and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Martha Verboort and many brother and sister in laws.

Survivors include her ten children and their spouses, Darlene and Bud Greene, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Dale and Mary Jansen, of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Sandie Jansen, of Oregon City, Oregon; Shirley and Ross VanderZanden, of LaGrande, Oregon; Ken and Kathleen Ross, of Yamhill, Oregon; Lynne Barber of Allen, Texas; Greg and Judy Jansen, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Bob and Barb Jansen, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Keith Jansen and Anita Martinez, of Dallas, Texas and Jim and Sherri Jansen, of Castle Rock, Colorado; her half-sister, Eunice VanDyke, of Verboort, Oregon and her brother and sister in laws. Also surviving are twenty-two grandchildren, over forty great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Visitation Church, Hospice and St. Jude's Children Hospital in her memory.

Ralph John Van Dyke, 94, a lifetime resident of the Verboort Community, passed away on March 22, 2019 at Jennings McCall Senior Living Center, Forest Grove, Oregon.

Ralph was born on June 24, 1924 in his parents’ home in Forest Grove, Oregon. He was the youngest of fourteen children born to Walter and Margaret (Jooston) Van Dyke. He was raised in the family home and graduated from Verboort High School Class of 1943.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Ann Huschkaon July 2, 1952. They resided in the house that Ralph was born in until 1961 when they replaced the old home with a new one.

Ralph worked the family dairy farm his entire life, purchasing the farm in 1955 and continued the dairy until 1975. After he sold the dairy cows, he raised beef animals and farmed until 1987 when he sold out to his son Ben and then retired.

His retirement years were adventuress. He continued to live on the farm, where he was born, and assisted his son in farming, made wine, fished, hunted, clammed and traveled. He had a deep passion for birds including geese, ducks, chickens, peafowl, doves, but especially pigeons.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his youngest son; Ben.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Virginia, five children: Walter VanDyke of Ontario, Oregon, Patricia VanDyke of Portland Oregon, Anthony and his wife Sheryl VanDyke of McMinnville, Oregon, daughter-in-law Tonya VanDyke of Forest Grove, Oregon, Donna Cherry of Johnson City, Tennessee, Margaret and her husband, Dennis Strieff of Portland Oregon, a sister Leona Puncochar, and four grandsons; Bryce, Brett, Nathan, and Ryan.

The family suggests donations be placed in Ralph's name to the Visitation Catholic School, 4189 NW visitation Rd., Forest Grove, Oregon 97116.

I saw a little bird go hop, hop, hop

I said “Pretty bird would you stop, stop, stop.”

I went to the window to say “How do you do?”

He shook his little tail and away he flew.

Darrell George Vandehey, 80, a resident of the Beaverton community, passed away Friday morning, October 17, 2014, at his home. \r

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at St Matthew Catholic Church; 427 SE 3rd Street in Hillsboro. \r

Friends and family are invited to attend a reception following the Mass held in the parish hall. \r

Rite of Christian burial and interment will take place at Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Verboort, Oregon. \r

Darrell was born on August 20, 1934 to Leo and Ida Mae (Wescott) Vandehey in Roy, Oregon, one of six children. He was raised in Cornelius and went to high school at Hilhi, graduating in the Class of 1953. \r

He enlisted into the US Army and served his country as head cook and kitchen supervisor for two years. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and then began higher education at Portland State College. Darrell then attended Oregon State University and received a Bachelors Degree in Food Technology with a minor in Chemistry, graduating in 1960. \r

Darrell met his future wife, Janet VanGrunsven, through mutual friends while he was in college. They were married on August 5, 1961, in Hillsboro, Oregon. Following their marriage, they raised their family in the Aloha/Beaverton area. \r

While getting his degree, Darrell started to work for Mrs. Reser’s Salads in Cornelius, where the mother of his best friend Al Reser started a small company making potato salad. As the company grew under Al’s leadership, Darrell helped build the now Reser’s Fine Foods into a major food production company and eventually became the VP of Operations, working for Reser’s for more than 60 years. \r

Darrell continued working for Reser’s until he passed away, always going in to the plant for a few hours each day. But he also followed his passions and hobbies. \r

Darrell was an avid and accomplished clockmaker, specializing in clock repair, collecting, and acquisition. His collection numbered in the hundreds, and he built a reputation for his collection of fine clocks and watches. For 45 years, a highlight of his week was meeting with a group of fellow clock collectors every Saturday morning. \r

Darrell was also a skilled handyman, and he refurbished and collected antique cars, which always found their way into local parades. He liked going out to eat, talking finance and current events. He enjoyed fishing and was a history enthusiast. And Darrell loved seeing the world, traveling extensively in Europe, with trips to the South Pacific, Africa, and South America, including his favorite adventure, a river trip down the Amazon. \r

He is preceded in death by his son Tod Vandehey, his parents, and three siblings. \r

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Janet, three children, and their spouses: Tracy and Dale Petersen of Tigard, Kevin Vandehey and Daniel Palm of Portland, and Jeff and Sara Vandehey of Lake Oswego; five grandchildren: Hollie Lambert, Corey Petersen, Andrew Petersen, Chloë Vandehey, and Benjamin Vandehey; two great granddaughters; Olivia Petersen and Maya Petersen; and two siblings: Carolyn Beitelspachand Maxine Ledford. \r

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations in Darrell’s name to Doernbecher’s Children’s Hospital.

Elmer Francis Vandehey , 96, a longtime resident of the Gaston community currently of Salem passed away on November 15, 2021.

Elmer was born on September 17, 1925 in Forest Grove, Oregon He was one of eight children born to August and Helen (Hendrickx) Vandehey. He was raised in Banks on the family farm and attended Banks High School graduating with the Class of 44.

He met his future wife, Vivian Lacey, while walking with his friend in downtown Banks. They soon began dating and following a two year courtship married on April 20, 1950 at St Francis Catholic Church in Roy, OR. They made their home in Gaston and had seven children.

Elmer was a farmer most all of his life, he farmed the ground in and around Seghers Rd in Gaston. He was also a fabricator and machinist and had a reputation for fixing farming and logging equipment and tractors. During the winter Elmer was a foreman for the US Forestry Dept and was a big part of replanting the Tillamook Forest.

Elmer enjoyed working with his hands and could build or make anything. He made dollhouses, furniture and remodeled homes. He enjoyed rebuilding old tractors, keeping a nice yard and enjoyed having coffee with friends. He was also a gifted artist and enjoyed painting with water colors. Elmer volunteered at his church, St. Anthony Catholic Church, he was on the maintenance committee, and always helped on the annual Turkey Dinner. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. Vivien and Elmer where world travelers visiting, Africa, Europe, South America, Turkey, India and Asia.

He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter; Susan Erickson, a son Brett Vandehey, son in law Eric Erickson and two siblings

He is survived by his loving wife, Vivien, five children and their spouses; Verner and Karen Vandehey of Salem, Alan and Elizabeth Vandehey of Bend, Leslie and Doug Oglesby of Gaston, Greg and Cindy Vandehey of Bend, Kirk and Susie Vandehey, of Creswell, five siblings, sixteen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
