Obituary

Ronald J. Van Grunsven, 84, passed away on Sunday, June 29th, at Jennings McCall in Forest Grove.

Ron was born January 25, 1941 in Hillsboro, Oregon. He was the oldest of 10 children born to Henry and Genevieve (Seus) Van Grunsven. Ron was raised on the family farm in Verboort and attended Visitation Catholic School and then Verboort High School until it closed in 1957. He finished his high school education at Hillsboro High graduating in 1959. Ron attended PCC while serving in the National Guard. He began his working career at Tektronix in Beaverton, Oregon.

Ron married Anita DeMay Evans at Visitation Catholic Church in July 1984 and became stepdad to Anita’s two sons, Dan and Matt Evans. Ron left Tektronix in 1997 and bought a small farm in Verboort, many times using his draft horses to work the fields. He and Anita raised various crops and sold their produce to Portland restaurants and several farmers markets. In 2002, they moved to Council, Idaho to continue farming and selling their crops to local markets. After semi-retiring in 2017, they moved to Wallowa, Oregon.

Anita died in 2019 and Ron then moved to Cornelius, Oregon to be near family. Ron was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Jim Spiering.

He is survived by his stepsons, Dan and Matt Evans, siblings Betty Vandecoevering, Linda Spiering, Jim and Willy Van Grunsven, Ken and Renita Van Grunsven, Joanne and Ken Vandehey, Patty Soto, Barb and Bob Jansen, Mary and Jerry Morse, Tom and Sheila Van Grunsven and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
