John Patrick Walsh, 87, a resident of the Beaverton community, died Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the MorningStar Assisted Living Center.
JOHN PATRICK WALSH was born January 13, 1938, in Atwood, Kansas, the son of the late David Edmon Walsh and Susan Magdelena (Unger) Walsh. He was raised and received his education in Medford, Oregon, having been a graduate of the St. Mary’s School Class of 1956.
Upon his high school graduation, John attended University of Portland, having received a B.S. degree in Engineering and then Boston University, having received a Master’s degree in Business.
He was a Veteran of the Vietnam Era having served one enlistment in the U.S. Army, until receiving his honorable discharge on December 31, 1966, at the rank of Specialist 4.
John had worked as a business manager in the manufacturing industry for many years, until he retired.
He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, as well as a member of The Dominican Lay Order, as the Laity of St. Dominic. He was well known for his charitable work for the homeless, and the Boys and Girls Club, in Seattle. He was also a member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaview, WA, where he dedicated himself to further community service.
Among his special interests, John enjoyed sailing, skiing, fishing, cooking and food preservation, and was an avid writer. He loved music, especially jazz and blues, and was a big fan of Fats Domino and Little Richard. He played the piano and guitar proficiently and loved to sing. He was a world traveler, loved languages, adventure, and traveled often with friends. For John, family and friends were everything, and he always joined in for important family events. He was the lifetime executive director of a meaningful fellowship organization called SCAM, Society for Clamming and Athletics for Men. The motley crew enjoyed decades of friendship, and coastal adventure.
John was preceded in death by his parents, David and Susan Walsh.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Jim Salander, of Bethesda, Maryland; his nieces and nephews, Abe and Orit Salander, of Chicago, Illinois and Hannah Salander and Terry Carl, of Lafayette, Colorado and his cousins, Eileen Duyck, of Forest Grove, Oregon; Margaret Duyck, of Forest Grove, Oregon and Dan Duyck, of Portland, Oregon, and the children of Jake Walsh of Forest Grove, Oregon.
