Obituary

BETHANY—Walter F. Stucki, well-known farmer, lived all of his life and died on the same century farm home. Died here Tuesday, March 6, 1984, after an illness that began in September. Funeral services were held at the Bethany Presbyterian Church Saturday with the Rev. George Day officiating. Vault interment was at the family plot at the Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery. Mr. Stucki was born in the family farm in Bethany on July 8, 1897, the son of Fred and Elise (Zimmerman) Stucki. His father had settled on this farm in 1882, and Mr. Stucki spent his entire lifetime here as a dairy and grain farmer. He had been an active member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church since 1913 and had served the church in virtually all positions, starting in the earlier choir years when youth groups in the German-speaking congregation. He had served as a church elder for more than 25 years and a trustee for 40 years. He also had generously helped many members and young people in the community with employment and in emergencies. Friends remember him always being considerate of the well-being of others. Mr. Stucki was a longtime member of the Farm Bureau and the Farmers Union and maintained an active interest in the affairs of the community, county, state and nation. He received his education then at McKinley School and then served many years on the school board. He was one of a family that included 12 children. He is survived by four sisters, Ruth Kestek of West Linn, Esther Hulst of Hillsboro, and Edna Zurbrugg of Portland. The family suggests gifts in his memory to the Bethany Presbyterian Church or to a charity or church school. The Fuiten Mortuary of Hillsboro was in charge of arrangements.
