Verna M. Hemmy A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery in Hillsboro for Verna M. Hemmy, who died Feb. 10 at age 83. Ms. Hemmy was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Helvetia. She graduated from Sandy Union High School and was a bookkeeper for several businesses, including in Hawaii and San Francisco, before returning to Helvetia in the mid-1970s. She retired as an assembly worker for Tektronix. Survivors include her sister, Doris Fisher, and nieces and nephews. Remembrances to the Oregon Chapter of the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Fir Lawn. Special Instructions: Remembrances to the Oregon Chapter of the American Heart Association Graveside services will be Thursday at 4 p.m. for Verna M. Hemmy, 83, Hillsboro. Miss Hemmy died Feb. 10, 2003, at a local hospital. Thursday's services will be at Bethany Presbyterian Church Cemetery. At her request, cremation has taken place. Miss Hemmy was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Helvetia, one of six daughters of Floran and Katherine Landauer Hemmy. She was raised in the Helvetia/Rock Creek area and attended Hillsboro High School for a year and she graduated from Sandy High School. Miss Hemmy took accounting courses and worked at a number of jobs in Portland, including for Western Machinery and North Coast Electric. Then worked for a mortgage loan company in San Francisco, Calif., and a time with the company in Hawaii before returning to Portland in 1962. She worked at Tektronix from 1966 until retiring in 1976. After retiring, she took care of her ailing father and had lived in the Hillsboro area since. Miss Hemmy enjoyed hiking, beach combing on the Oregon coast, league bowling, playing cards and crossword puzzles. Survivors include a sister, Doris Fisher, Hillsboro; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant brother and four sisters, Katherine Meyer, Ruth Stagner, Florence Hergert and Lois Flynn. Fir Lawn Mortuary (formerly Bronleewe-Bass Funeral Home) is in charge of arrangements. Special Instructions: At her request, cremation has taken place.
