John E. Pfister, 72, Hillsboro, died July 24, 2009, of cancer at his home, with family and friends by his side. A life celebration will be 11 a.m. Aug. 3 at Visitation Parish Hall, 4245 NW Bluff, Portland. A reception will follow the service at Bethany Presbyterian Church Cemetery. John Pfister was born Aug. 15, 1936, in Portland. Raised on the Bethany family farm, he attended Bethany Grade School and Beaverton High School. He married Donna Luethe, Dec. 19, 1964. They lived in Hillsboro until 1980, when they moved to the Skyline area. In 1996 they moved back to Hillsboro. He worked as a service rep for Ingersoll-Rand for 25 years. Upon retirement, he and his son, Fred, farmed in Laurel. He enjoyed farm activities and was an avid NASCAR fan. A handyman, he also participated in local tractor pulls and was a volunteer with Skyline Fire District No. 20. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Margaret (Ahrens) Pfister. Survivors include his wife, Donna; sons, Frederick and Donald Pfister; and five grandchildren. Guest book is at dvfuneralhome.com.
