George Franklin Pauly
Funeral for George Franklin Pauly of Hillsboro will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Skyline Memorial Funeral Home. Private interment will be in Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery.
Mr. Pauly, who was 85, died of cancer Friday in a Hillsboro care center. He was born Oct. 12, 1903, in Portland. His grandfather, Herman Schultze, moved to Oregon in 1861 and was a charter member of First German Evangelical Church in Bethany. His paternal grandparents helped found Bethany Free Methodist Church.
As a young man Mr. Pauly was a high climber for the Tidewater Timber Co., a pile driver and later worked for Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway for its Vernonia to Linnton line.
In 1928 he purchased a Kaiser road farm that was a land grant to his grandfather. He served in the U.S. Army World War II and later worked as a carpenter for a Hillsboro construction company while continuing to farm.
Mr. Pauly is survived by his brothers, Clarence; Ben and Ralph; and sisters, Ruth Pauly, Alice Woodworth, Bertha Collins, Grace Westbury, Margaret Tate, Carol Bleim, Winifred Hop- Portland. All from Portland.
