Dale Johnson, 58, development expert BEAVERTON—Dale Clifford Johnson, 58, died June 20, 1995, at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland of complications of a stroke. A day funeral at 2 p.m. will be Fri- day at Bethany Presbyteri- an Church, 5505 NW Springville Road, Port- land, with the Rev. J. McShane officiating. Interment will be in Bethany Presbyteri- an Church Family Cemetery and friends are in- vited to a reception at the fam- ily home, 15985 NW Blue Ridge Drive, Beaverton, imme- diately following the services. Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 7, 1937, in Pasadena, Calif., one of seven children of Al- bert Johnson. He was raised and educated in the Pasadena area and earned a bachelor's de- gree in orna- mental horticul- ture at California State Polytech- nic College in Pomona. He also studied busi- ness; traffic engi- neering, marketing, jour- nalism and land use planning. On April 18, 1968, he mar- ried Cheryl Edwards at the Tigard Presbyteri- an Church. He worked in Los Angeles de- sign for the Los Angeles com- missions in Claremont and Whit- tier, Calif. Mr. Johnson moved to Washington County in 1966 to be county planning director. From 1970 to 1983 he was senior vice president of Gen- tel Co., a real estate develop- ment com- pany. He then became presi- dent of BenFran Develop- ment Inc. In 1987, Mr. Johnson became an associate of a consulting firm for real estate development. He was known for his gar- dening ability and 'haunted' yard for neighborhood youngsters. He was known as a 'practical' joker and for his love of ice cream. Mr. Johnson was a member of Bethany Presbyteri- an Church. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; and five children, Beaverton, their spouses, David A. and Sharon Johnson, Fresno, Calif.; Kim- berly, Julie and Joanna Cor- naps, Calif.; Margaret J. and David Bass, Hermiston; and Jeri England and Jon Taylor, Camber- well. Also surviving are four grand- children, Matthew Gass, Hermiston, and Jocelyn, Olivia- lius; a brother and sister-in- law, Robert and Joyce Johnson, Glendora, Calif.; and a sister- in-law, Helen and Walt Kugel, Whittier, Calif. He was preceded in death by a son, David Johnson, in 1987 and several brothers and sisters. The family suggests memo- rial contributions to the St. Vin- cent Heart Institute of St. Vin- cent Hospital Founda- tion, 205 SW Barnes Road. Special Instructions: Friends are invited to a reception at the family home, 15985 NW Blue Ridge Drive, Beaverton, immediately following the services.
