Obituary

Alfred Schindler Funeral services were to be held today in Hillsboro for Alfred Lewis Schindler, who died Thursday at age 90 at Forest View Care Center in Forest Grove. The funeral was scheduled for 11 a.m., at the Sunset Chapel of Donelson, Sewell & Mathews Mortuary, with the Rev. Bob Bulksley of Bethany Presbyterian Church officiating. The burial was to be in Bethany at Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery. Mr. Schindler was born Aug. 20, 1892, in Cedar Mill. His parents were Chris and Annie Kassebaum Schindler. He attended Union School in Cedar Mill, then farmed in the Bethany area for 74 years, using horses when he raised grain and cattle. He moved to Forest Grove in 1980. His survivors are his brother, Chris Schindler of Hillsboro, and many nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery. Mrs. Reichen died April 5, 1982 at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born November 19, 1901 in Bethany the daughter of Peter and Mary Kissing Grossen and had lived in the Hillsboro area all her life. She was married to Chris Reichen in Helvetia on Sept. 19, 1914. Mrs. Reichen lived with her parents, a brother and three sisters in the West Union and Helvetia area as a child. She attended school at Rock Creek and Helvetia. After her marriage they farmed and operated a dairy in the West Union area for more than 60 years. She was an active member of the Bethany United Presbyterian Church and in earlier years she had served as organist at the church. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Lois Reichen, grandsons Don and Randy all of Hillsboro and Robert of New York, great grandchildren, Lincoln and Lindsey and a sister Anne Jossey Livermore of Hillsboro. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Francis. The casket will be open at the funeral home until this evening. The family suggests those who wish may contribute to Bethany United Presbyterian Church or Bethany Bible Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Monessen, Sewell and Matthews Mortuary Hillsboro.
