Obituary

STANLEY HOWARD SCHMIDLKOFER was born June 5, 1926 in Banks, Oregon, the son of Joseph and Petronella (Cropp) Schmidlkofer. He was raised in the Banks, Verboort and Hillside communities. Stanley attended Hillside Schools and later graduated from Forest Grove High School, Class of 1944.
He was a Veteran of World War II, having joined the United States Navy in 1944. Stanley served for two years until receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1946.
Stanley was married to Ann Hermens on April 26, 1949 at the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort. Following their marriage they have made their home in the Hillside District of Forest Grove. Stanley and Ann celebrated their 54Wedding Anniversary this past April.
He worked for twenty years for Roy W. Heinrich & Co. in Hillsboro, first as a service manager and later in truck sales. In 1983, Stanley went to work in truck sales for DSU, Peterbilt & GMC, Inc. on Swan Island in Portland, where he worked for seven years before he retired in 1990.
Stanley was a lifelong and active member of the Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Hillsboro Kiwanis Club.
Among his interests, Stanley enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He was an avid swimmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Petronella Schmidlkofer and a daughter, Karen Marie Schmidlkofer in 1969.
Stanley passed away January 13, 2004 at the Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Portland. He is survived by his wife, Ann Schmidlkofer of the family home in the Hillside District of Forest Grove; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bradley J. and Suzi Schmidlkofer of Hillsboro; and John W. and Julie Schmidlkofer of the Hillside District of Forest Grove; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann M. and Michael Strassel of Buxton: and Catherine A. and Paul Heinrich of Hillsboro; a brother and sister-inlaw, Joseph and Juanita Schmidlkofer of Forest Grove; a foster sister, Aleen Smith of Salem; twelve grandchildren, Matt Schmidlkofer and his wife, Kristi; Joshua Schmidlkofer and his wife, Colette; Sheleen Wytcherley and her husband, Stephen; Kim Strassel and her husband, Matthew Rose; Kara Kemper and her husband, Lance; Kandis Sewell and her husband Aaron; Kristal Strassel; Bill Heinrich and his wife, Colleen; Brian Heinrich; Janae Schmidlkofer; Jessica Schmidlkofer, and Joel Schmidlkofer; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Visitation School Endowment Fund, 4247 NW Visitation Road, Forest Grove, Oregon 97116, in his memory.
