Obituary

Robert Mark Sagaser, age 77, of Gaston, Oregon, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on March 15, 1948, in Williston, North Dakota, to Robert and Margaret Sagaser of Tioga, ND, Mark lived a life defined by faith, family, and service.

On October 5, 1968, he married the love of his life, Lana Rae (Estby) Sagaser, in Tioga, North Dakota. Together they shared 57 beautiful years of marriage, recently celebrating their anniversary surrounded by the family they built together.

A proud U.S. Navy Seabee and Veteran of the Vietnam War, Mark served his country with honor from December 3, 1969, to September 1, 1972. He lived by the Seabee motto — “We Build, We Fight” — carrying its spirit into every part of his life.

Whether serving God, country, or family, Mark stood as a steady pillar of strength, loyalty, and love. His devotion to family was the center of his world — the foundation of his warmth, his pride, and his purpose.

Mark continued to live a life of service — as a devoted husband and loving father. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Forest Grove and also belonged to the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

Mark never retired from his lifelong love of cars, a passion that became both his career and his joy. Guided by that enthusiasm, Mark and Lana built, owned, and operated their own independent auto dealership for more than 30 years — a business that reflected their integrity and hard work, and brought them great pride and fulfillment.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Lana Sagaser; his son, Robert (Monica) Sagaser; his daughters, Angela (Mitchell) Rivet, Jennifer (Ivan) Watkins, and Susan (Broderick) Ziegle; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his siblings.

Brothers — Thomas (Sheila) Sagaser of Mandan, ND; Stevan (Patricia) Sagaser of Grand Forks, ND; and Samuel (Jodie) Sagaser of Tioga, ND.

Sisters — Monica (Michael) Siggerud of Fargo, ND; and Jeanne Rassier of Mandan, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Sagaser; infant twin brothers John and Joseph; brother Paul Sagaser; niece Chantel Sagaser; sister-in-law Judy Sagaser; and brother-in-law Robert Rassier.

“With willing hearts and skillful hands, the difficult we do at once; the impossible takes a bit longer.” — U.S. Navy Seabees Motto
