Patricia “Pat” Anne Christensen Joyaux, 87, a resident of the Hillsboro community passed away at her home on March 25, 2024.

Pat was born on July 21, 1936, in Portland, OR. She was the oldest of five children born to Stephen and Elsie (Conzelman) Roshak. In her early years she lived in Tigard, Chehalis and then Olympia where she started grade school. At the age of 11 her family moved to Hillsboro and she attended St. Clare’s, finishing her education at St Mary of the Valley High School, graduating with the Class of 1954.

She met her future husband, Richard R. Christensen, through his best friend Wally and his girlfriend, Norma. They began dating and married on June 16, 1955 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro. They made their home in Hillsboro and welcomed five children, Gayle, Diane, Linda, Jeffrey and Carol. Richard, the love of her life, passed away suddenly on November 22, 1969. Pat was a young widow and stayed very strong for her small children. She continued to live in Hillsboro until 1972 when she married Henri Joyaux on August 5, 1972. They made their home in Cornelius. Henri passed away on January 14, 2013. Pat moved back to Hillsboro in 2014.

Pat was a loving and devoted mother to her five children. She also worked outside the home as a secretary and registrar for Valley Catholic High School, a job she held for over 43 years, retiring at age 84.

She loved being home with her flower and vegetable gardens. She canned and baked everything for her family. She was a great cook and enjoyed family gatherings. She was a seamstress, liked to keep a neat and tidy home and playing Skip-Bo with her family. When she traveled it was in Oregon, to the coast at her daughter’s home, and Central Oregon. She loved the beauty of our state. She was a loyal friend and had friendships lasting over 74 years.

She is preceded in death by her two husbands, Richard Christensen and Henri Joyaux, her parents, and a great granddaughter, Reese Holland Becker.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Gayle and Norman Verboort of Prineville, Diane and Dave VanDomelen of Hillsboro, Linda Christensen and Lyle Blow of Forest Grove, Jeffrey and Geena Christensen of Diamond Bar, Ca, Carol Howarth of Hillsboro. Her siblings, Kay Herb, Larry (Pat) Roshak, Virginia Arnett and Vivian (JR) Mellow.

Ten grandchildren, Shannon, Angie, Mitch, Brad, Kelsey, Heather, Brock, Austin, Richard and Daniel. Nine great grandchildren, Kadin, Izaya, Joshua, Isla, Caroline, Madison, Miles, Olivia and Crew. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are two step children, Chantelle Polito and Bernie Joyaux.
