Loretta Elaine Matheny, 52, a resident of the Hillsboro community, passed away on September 29, 2026, after a courageous fight against cancer, at the home she shared with her parents and her beloved dog, Layla. Loretta was born on November 3, 1973, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the much-loved daughter of Truman and Sharon Matheny, and the oldest of their two children. Loretta was raised in Oregon for most of her life. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1992,and received her Bachelor of Science with a Minor in Philosophy from Portland State University in 2005. She spent most of her career working in retail before making a career move to Providence Portland Medical Center, where she worked in patient intake. Loretta enjoyed hanging out with her family and friends, as well as reading, knitting, dancing, and playing board games. She is survived by her mother, Sharon, and father, Truman Matheny; her sister Sara, and brother-in-law, Brandon VanDyke; her nieces, Sofie and Laurel VanDyke; and her dog, Layla. Loretta will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
