Nolan Joseph Kemper was born at Forest Grove on September 28, 1935, the son of William and Dorothy Vandervelden Kemper. He recieved all of his early education at the Visitation Elementary and High School at Verboort and then graduated from Pacific University. He recieved his Master's degree from the University of Portland and then taught and coached three years at Eddyville. He then accepted a similar position with the Department of Defense and spent the next ten years in France and the Phillipine Islands. He later attended Portland State University and recieved his Certified Public Accountants License and he had been associated with Warren Lancaster's C.P.A. firm in Forest Grove after becoming licensed in 1977. Mr. Kemper had lived at Banks since 1976 and had been very active in the Banks Summer Baseball program. He had been coaching one of the league teams at Banks and also coached soccer at North Plains. He had been a lifelong member of the Catholic Church in the earlier years at the Visitation Church at Verboort and in later years of the St. Francis of Assisi Church at Roy. Mr. Kemper was married August 10, 1963 at Beaverton to Rosemary Smith who along with four children, Katrina, Karl, Chris and Kerry Kemper, survive him at the family home. Also surviving are his parents, Mr. & Mrs William Kemper of Verboort and five sisters, Mrs. Robert (Jean) Lepschat, Banks; Mrs. A.A. (Joyce) Giesbers and Mrs. Dennis (Sharon) Giesbers, both of Forest Grove; Mrs. Charles (Carolyn) Chapman, Orcus Island, Washington and Mrs. David (Charlene) Flowers, Eugene.

William Kemper, services Saturday FOREST GROVE-William T. Kemper, 86, Forest Grove, died Aug. 9, 1995, at Bess Kaiser Hospital in Portland of causes related to age. A Mass will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Visitation Roman Catholic Church in Verboort. Interment will follow in Visi tation : Cemetery in Verboort. Mr. Kemper was born KEMPER April 30, 1909, in Yamhill, a son of Joseph and Anna Kemper. On Oct. 6, 1931, he married Dorothy Vandervelden in Verboort. They observed their 63rd wedding anniversary last year. Mr. Kemper worked for B.P. John in the wood industry. He was a life-long member of Visitation Parish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Forest Grove Elks Lodge, Hillsboro Moose Lodge and Washington County American Association of Retired Persons, where he was tour director for 10 years. Mr. Kemper was involved in playing and coaching baseball all his life. He enjoyed dancing and had danced weekly until the last few years. He also bowled in leagues in Hillsboro and Forest Grove. Blanche Marie Kemper \r

(April 24, 1927 - February 2, 2011) \r

Blanche Marie Kemper, 83, a resident of the Verboort community died February 2, 2011 at the Hillsboro Health and Rehabilitation in Hillsboro. \r

The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Visitation Catholic Church; 4285 NW Visitation Rd in Verboort. \r

A Memorial Mass will follow the services at 11:00 AM at Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort \r

A private Rite of Christian burial will take place at the Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Verboort later the same day. \r

Blanche was born on April 24, 1927 in Banks, OR. She was one of five children born to Remi and Mary (Cop) Vuylsteke. She was raised on the family farm in Banks and attended school at Greenville School. Blanche later attended Banks High School and graduated with the Class of 1944. Following High School Blanche began working as a clerk for the Hillsboro Argus. \r

Blanche met Clarence “Click” on a blind date arranged by his friend, Scott Hess. She was united in marriage to Clarence Kemper on November 26, 1946 in Roy, OR. It was a double wedding with Scott and Jean Hess. Following their marriage they moved to the Kemper family farm in Verboort were they raised their family and have lived since. \r

Blanche was first and foremost a loving wife and mother to her family. She also worked in the Washington County Sheriff’s office where she retired in 1988 after 23 years of dedicated service.\r

Among her interest she enjoyed gardening and giving her vegetables to family and friends. During the holidays she turned her kitchen into a candy and baking factory making holiday gifts for family and friends, including her friends at the doctor’s office where she received excellent care through the years. She was also an active member of the Visitation Parish Alter Society and very much enjoyed working with the members in support of this ministry. One of Blanche’s favorite activities was searching rummage and garage sales for bargains. In their earlier days, Clarence and Blanche would adventure to the coast to clam dig and to eastern Oregon to rock hound. In later years when travel was difficult, she enjoyed visiting with her family and friends on the back patio next to her garden, always encouraging visitors to take some corn or tomatoes home. \r

She is preceded in death by her parents and three siblings; Clarence and Lawrence Vuylsteke, and Florence Riley. \r

Survivors include her husband; Clarence Kemper, three children and their spouses; James “Jim” and Laurie Kemper of Gaston, OR, Donald “Don” and Debbie Kemper of Hillsboro, OR, Michele and Bill Anonsen of Monument, CO, a brother; David Vuylsteke, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren \r

DOROTHY MARY KEMPER was born May 8, 1912, in Verboort, Oregon, the daughter of William A. and Anne Mary (Van Dyke) Vandervelden. She was raised and received her education in the Verboort community, having attended Visitation School.
She was united in marriage to William T. \"Bill\" Kemper on October 6, 1931 in the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort. Following their marriage, they made their home in Vernonia for two years until 1933 when they returned to the Verboort community, where she had resided since. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, on August 9, 1995 at Portland, after celebrating over sixty-three years of marriage.
Dorothy was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the Visitation Parish, having been active with the Catholic Daughters and Altar Society. Dorothy worked for many years on various committees for the Verboort Sausage Dinner. She was a member of A.A.R.P., having organized travel trips for ten years.
Among her interests, Dorothy enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Western Club, a dance club. She also enjoyed flowers and traveling with her friends at A.A.R.P. She had a special love for her family, especially her many grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Cecelia Crop; a son, Nolan Kemper; and a daughter, Joyce Giesbers.
Dorothy died Monday morning, May 5, 1997 at her home. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Jean M. and Robert Lepschat of Banks; Sharon G. and Denis Giesbers of Verboort; Carolyn F. and Charles Chapman of Granite Falls, Washington; and Charlene Flowers of Banks; a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Kemper-Riddock of Banks; a son-inlaw, Anthony \"Bud\" Giesbers of Forest Grove; a brother-in-law, Gerald Kemper of Hillsboro; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Jesse of Hillsboro.
Also surviving are twenty grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Visitation School Endowment Fund, 4189 NW Visitation Road, Forest Grove, Oregon 97116, in her memory.
Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the cemetery rites, to be held in the Parish Center at the church.

Gerald Otto “Jerry” Kemper, 87, Hillsboro, died March 20, 2005, at Tuality Community Hospital. A memorial mass will be Tuesday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 447 SE Third Ave. .; Rosary services will be Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the church. A reception will follow the rosary in the Costelloe Center at St. Matthew Catholic Grade School. Private interment will be in Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Verboort. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Kemper, Hillsboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Steward, Vancouver, Wash.; three step-children and their spouses, Beverly and Jerry Burger, Sauvie Island, Bob and Arlene Hooker, Deer Island, and Nancy and Joe Olsen, Gresham; a step-daughter-in-law, Jill Hooker, Vernonia; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernice Jesse, Forest Grove. Rosemary Frances Kemper-Riddock, 73, a long-time resident of Banks, Oregon and a resident of the Seaside community over the last ten years, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, October 19, 2015 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland. \r

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2014 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 120 Oceanway in Seaside, OR. \r

Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Mass held at the parish hall. \r

The Rite of Christian Burial will take place following the reception at 3:45 p.m. at Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Verboort, OR. \r

Rosemary was born on December 1, 1941 in Long Beach, CA. She was one of three children born to Charles and Frances (Amerata) Smith, and moved with her family to Portland, Oregon as a young girl. She attended St Mary of the Valley through High School, graduating with the Class of 1959. She earned her bachelor’s from Marylhurst University and a Masters Degree from Portland State University. \r

She met her husband, Nolan Kemper, while attending a baseball game he was playing in at East Moreland Park in Portland. After a dance-filled courtship they were married on August 10, 1963. After getting married they were both hired as schoolteachers by the Defense Department, and for over a decade they taught school on US military bases all over the world, including Midway, France, Turkey, Germany and the Philippines. After traversing the globe they returned home in 1974 and together built their family home in Banks. \r

Rosemary worked in the home raising her kids, and as a substitute teacher in the Banks’ school district, until Nolan passed away suddenly in 1983. After Nolan’s death she returned to teaching full-time at Dilley Elementary School, and later became the curriculum director for Forest Grove School District. She finished her educational career in 2010 after serving as the principal of Cannon Beach Elementary for three years. \r

In 1986 she met Michael Riddock through mutual friends and they were married a year later, living in Banks until 2007 before moving to Seaside. Michael passed away in July 2012. \r

Rosemary loved the beach, enjoyed hiking with friends and set new standards for Grandmother excellence, showering her six grandchildren with love, books and her hand-made quilts. She volunteered at her church, Our Lady of Victory, and sang in the church choir. She lived to help others, and was integral in the founding and success of Seaside’s Food 4 Kids, an organization that provides food-filled backpacks every Friday during the school year to kids who request assistance. More than anything, she loved helping others, and devoted her life to making everyone she encountered feel like they mattered. \r

She is preceded by her first husband of twenty years; Nolan Kemper, her second husband of 25 years, Michael Riddock, her parents, and her sister, Nicki Ard \r

Survivors include her four children and a daughter-in-law: Karl Kemper of Ashland, Chris and Jill Kemper of Portland, Katrina Kemper of Yokosuka, Japan, Kerry Kemper of Portland. She is also survived by her brother Pat Smith, and his wife Pam, of Gladstone, Oregon, and six grandchildren: Jordan, Jackson, Alexis, Nola, Cade and Luke. \r

Clarence\"Click\" Theodore Kemper

(September 26, 1918 - April 21, 2012)

Clarence “Click” Theodore Kemper, 93, a longtime resident of the Verboort community died Saturday morning, April 21, 2012 at the OHSU Hospital in Portland

Rosary and Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Visitation Catholic Church 4285 NW Visitation rd in Verboort.

A reception will follow the Mass held at the Parish Hall.

A private graveside service will be held at Visitation Cemetery in Verboort later that day.

Click was born on September 26, 1918 in Kansas City, OR. He was one of seven children His father was Bernard Kemper and his mother was Antoinette (Vandehey) Kemper. He lived his whole life on the family farm in the Verboort community attending school at Visitation Grade School and High School. Click was a ballplayer and had attended Lefty O’Doul’s baseball school in San Francisco, CA with Larry Jansen. The high point of his baseball career happened in 1939 when his team won the Tualatin Valley League Pennant.

He was drafted into the Army in 1941. Click served his country in the European theater and participated in several engagements. He landed at Normandy and fought through the hedgerows. He earned two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for bravery. Click was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Tech Sgt. Following the war Click attended farm school on the GI Bill.

Click married the love of his life, Blanche Vuylsteke, on November 26, 1946 in Verboort, OR. They settled in the Verboort area on a small farm off of Marsh Road. Blanche died in February of 2011.

Click was a farmer and enjoyed raising cereal crops, vegetable and berry crops. As a supplemental income for his growing family he also worked outside the farm, first at the saw mill then for 20 years at General Tire in Portland.

Click had a zest for life like no other. He enjoyed teaching and coaching his sons in youth baseball. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, rock hounding, playing cards and exchanging stories on his patio overlooking his garden.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Blanche, four siblings and his parents.

Survivors include his three children and their spouses; James “Jim” and Laurie Kemper of Gaston, OR, Donald “Don” and Debbie Kemper of Gaston, OR, Michele “Shelly” and Bill Anonsen of Monument, CO, a brother; John Kemper of Cornelius, OR, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren

The family suggests donations in Click’s name to Priest Retirement Fund.
