Obituary
Joyce Marie Braukman, 90, passed away on July 10, 2025 at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland.
Joyce was born on June 30, 1935 in Perham, Minn. She was the second oldest of five children born to Henry and Judith (Polman) Braukman. She was raised in Minnesota and moved with her family to Verboort, Oregon when she was a young teenager. She attended Verboort High School and graduated with the Class of 1953.
She met her lifelong friend, Joan Jensen, at a bowling league in 1959. Joyce’s family brought Joan into the family as an honorary sister and was so until her passing in 2024. Joyce had worked in the high-tech industry all her life and retired as a manager at Tektronix in the early 1990’s. She had lived most of her life in, and around, the Portland area until she retired. From then on, she split most of her time between Sun City, AZ and Garibaldi, OR. Recently, she moved back to Forest Grove permanently, residing in The Homestead with Joan, then in the last six months, into Jennings McCall.
She enjoyed the outdoors and was a very competitive sportswoman, having played softball with the Meadow Larks, bowling in a league, and loved the game of golf. Golf was her life and at one time, she belonged to several country clubs and traveled around to many tournaments. She, also, liked trail-riding with her motorbike and loved campfires. She was an excellent cook and made big Thanksgiving dinners for her pals in Sun City and was always a driving force for the Braukman Family Christmas in December. She collected teddy bears, liked to water and snow ski, and enjoyed traveling with her friend Joan either via cruises or flying. Joyce was always an involved aunt with all of her nieces and nephews, asking questions, and including them in her stories and activities.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Dorothy Peters, Gene Braukman, Butch Braukman, and brother-in-law, Leander Peters.
She is survived by her youngest brother and his wife, Tom and Felicia Braukman of Hillsboro, sister-n-laws, Lanie Braukman of Forest Grove, Nancy Braukman of Cornelius, and many nieces and nephews.
