Obituary

Marjorie Esther Gossett, 78, a longtime resident of the Forest Grove area died June 19, 2013 at her home.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Visitation Catholic Church; 4285 NW Visitation Rd. in Verboort.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort.


Rite of Christian Burial and Vault interment will follow the Mass at Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Verboort.


Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the interment held in the Visitation parish hall.

Marjorie was born on August 6, 1934 in Sharon, Kansas. She was the youngest of two children born to Ed and Irene (Ketzner) Schmidt. Marjorie was raised in Sharon, Kansas and moved with her family to Carlton when she was a young teenager. She graduated from McMinnville High School with the class of 1952.

She met her future husband, Donald Gossett, while she was working at the McMinnville Creamery. Marjorie was a secretary and Don drove truck. They soon began dating and they were married on February 16, 1953 in McMinnville, OR. Following their marriage they made their home in Carlton and Hillsboro until 1964 when they moved to the farm in Cornelius, OR. In 2010 they moved into Forest Grove. Don Died on May 13, 2012.

Marjorie was first and foremost a loving mother to her seven children. She also owned and operated Kane's Cottage Florist for over twenty years. Marjorie enjoyed cake decorating, sewing, gardening, and baking.

She is preceded in death by her husband, brother, and her parents. She is survived by her children; Chris Gossett of Hammond, OR, Steve and Carolyn Gossett of Cornelius, OR, Cathy and Norman Hertel of Yamhill, OR, Patty and Andy Duyck of Forest Grove, OR, Donna and Jim Meeuwsen of Forest Grove, OR, Janet Herb of Forest Grove, OR, and Julie and Randy Retting of West Linn, OR., 23 grandchildren and 13 great -grandchildren.

The family suggests donations in Marjorie's name to Visitation School.
