Agnes M. (Vandecoevering) Herb Coates, 89, a resident of the Hillsboro community, died Friday morning, December 23, 2016 at the Silver Bell Adult Foster Care Home in Hillsboro.
AGNES MARY VANDECOEVERING was born March 23, 1927 in Verboort, Oregon, the daughter of the late William Joseph Vandecoevering and Delia (Vandehey) Vandecoevering. She was raised and received her education in Verboort, having attended Visitation School.
She was united in marriage to Anthony Peter "Pete" Herb on August 3, 1949 in the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort. Following their marriage they resided in the Roy community. They later divorced.
On February 25, 1972, Agnes was united in marriage to Glen Robert Coates at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy. Following their marriage they resided in the Aloha community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, on April 4, 2002, after celebrating over thirty years of marriage together. In 2004, Agnes moved to the Silver Bell Adult Foster Care Home in Hillsboro, having been a guest resident since.
Agnes had worked for Vernon Duyck on the berry farm and later for Tektronix, Inc. in the cafeteria, ceramics department and as a quality control inspector. She worked for Tektronix for twenty-five years, until she retired at the age of fifty-six years old.
She was a lifelong member of the Visitation Parish in Verboort, a member of the altar society and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Among her special interests she enjoyed sewing, hunting and gardening, especially caring for her daffodils, tulips and dahlias. Agnes also enjoyed making and decorating wedding cakes. She also traveled, having toured Australia, Holland and Czechoslovakia.
Agnes was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Delia Vandehey; her four brothers, Tom Vandecoevering; Eddie Vandecoevering; Vincent Vandecoevering and Stephen Vandecoevering and her daughter, Patricia Haynes on December 15, 2013.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Edna and Ralph Carr, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Ben and Renee Herb, of Roseville, California and Lori and Rick Amrein, of Lake Oswego, Oregon; her daughter-in-law, Susi Herb Nieto, of Rocklin, California; her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Lorna Vandecoevering, of Verboort, Oregon and Harold and Linda Vandecoevering, of Banks, Oregon and her seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret Chmieleski, of Canada; Theresa and Gerald Mandel, of Pensacola, Florida; Minnie and Butch Krieger, of Tillamook, Oregon; Sister Claire Vandecoevering, S.S.M.O; Sister Ann Vandecovering, S.S.M.O. and Sister Agnes Marie Vandecoevering, S.S.M.O., all of Beaverton, Oregon.
Also surviving are her ten grandchildren and their spouses, Jamie and Amber Carr, of Rainier, Oregon; Misty and Mike Roubal, of Clatskanie, Oregon; Christopher Herb and Jeremy Herb, both of Roseville, California; Danny and Michelle Herb, of Los Angeles, California; Sandi Lindsay, of Kenai, Alaska; Julie and Alex Crays, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Becky Wahl, of Cascade Locks, Oregon; Robert Amrein, of Aloha, Oregon and Amy Amrein, of Lake Oswego, Oregon; her nine great-grandchildren, Lucas and Ellie Roubal; Trevor and Tyler Carr; Emily, Nicole and Nathaniel Lindsay and Erica and Kyler Wahl and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Visitation Parish Building Fund, 4189 NW Visitation Rd, Verboort, OR 97116, in her memory.
