Obituary

Dennis Edward Manning (“Denny”), 98, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, December 7th with his family close by. He was born in Gervais, Oregon, and lived his entire life in the Willamette Valley, most recently in Newberg and McMinnville.

Dennis was one of fourteen children in the Manning family and grew up surrounded by this large Catholic household, egging on lively chaos. From a young age, he developed a passion for cars—one that became not just a career, but a calling. He spent his entire working life as a mechanic, a profession he loved, and he could talk for hours about engines and classic cars to anyone willing to listen.

Known fondly as “Dennis the Menace,” he never lost his mischievous ten-year-old sense of humor and lit up every room he entered. His dancing skills famously won the heart of his wife, Aileen, beginning a devoted marriage that lasted 76 years. A caring patriarch and steadfast friend, Dennis was always ready with a helping hand, a needed tool or hanky, carefully stored in his signature pair of coveralls. He could fix anything, and he approached life with generosity, warmth, and unshakeable good cheer.

Dennis was preceded in death by many of his siblings; only his sister Donna Schott now carries on the Manning legacy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Aileen; his son Greg and partner Judy; his daughter Becky; his granddaughters Kim and Kelly. Kim’s husband Dan, and Dennis’s great-grandchildren Cohen and Piper; Kelly’s husband Justin and great-granddaughter Lillian.

Burial services will be held on Saturday, December 13th at 1:00pm at the St. Paul Catholic Cemetery.
