Flat rectangular granite gravestone marker set flush into the ground with a concrete border and surrounded by green grass. A carved Christian cross symbol is centered at the top. Primary inscription reads 'ELMER J VANDER VEELDEN' in large block letters. Below it: 'T SGT US ARMY WORLD WAR II'. Birth date 'MAY 16 1925' on the left and death date 'AUG 19 1998' aligned on the right. A white circular vase holder is embedded in the concrete base to the right of the stone. No epitaphs, additional symbols, flowers, flags, or mementos are visible. The lower edge of the image shows a person's black sneakers and blue jeans, indicating the photo was taken from a standing position nearby. The stone surface shows some weathering and dirt accumulation.
